GLEN ALLEN, Va. ? A hundred miles south of the bickering in the nation?s capital, Republicans in the district of one of the chief negotiators, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R), delivered a mixed and sometimes contradictory picture on Saturday of what they hope will emerge from the talks.

More than a dozen shoppers at the Virginia Center Commons Mall said they want their leaders to stand firm against tax increases, but they?re tired of the bickering. They expect a deal on the debt ceiling, but don?t necessarily think one is required. And they agree with Cantor on the substance of the debate, but don?t all endorse his tactics.
